Ready to fire.

First of all, huge thank you to Andrew for picking up some supplies from Edmonton! So appreciated!

My projects are all ready to fire. I have a couple questions for the great knowledge base in our membership.

  1. i think that I need more cookies to place all of my pieces on in the kiln. Is it something that I should be making? Any advice on how?
  2. Is there anyone willing to help me with the fireing? I’m very willing to get a lesson on it so that I don’t have to keep pestering people.
  3. I think that there is room for others projects too if anyone else is ready to fire.

Thank you so much! If you want to message me directly my phone number is (209) 954-6161.

feel free to call or text or use messenger.

Hi Linda, because the kiln is (much like the laser cutter an expensive piece of equipment with many ways to go awry, we typically have had a designated person or people who do the firing. At the very least we should have a way of tracking usage. Generally we try to run it full, it's more efficient and from what ive read, behaves better thermally when it's full.

as for cookies, properly glazed items fired at the correct temperature/schedule should not run or crawl, however cookies are a great way to protect the kiln furniture from errors. They're a good use of scrap clay and leftovers, I like to also make trays with edges for small items to avoid having to handle them individually.

I'll get my butt over to glaze my pots this week, if you don't mind waiting a day or two.

Also- I know I had mentioned to some others that it would be good to have a clay-space members meetup now that there are more than a few of us, this is a great reminder to schedule that.

Hi Amanda. Thank you for this. I absolutely can wait for a few days.

i think we've recovered from our various surgeries and unplanned trips enough to start doing pottery again, so we will try our best to get over and glaze our things by this weekend so we can get them in for the next firing. i also think it would be great if more people are doing ceramics and are able to fire the kiln as that means more opportunities to get your things through the kiln without needing to bother/beg others.

ok our stuff is glazed and loaded! not everything in there has cookies but otherwise it looks pretty ready to go (and pretty full) but there's probably room for a few more things!

Wonderful! I’m excited. I’m also out of town until tomorrow. If you want to go ahead and fire it I can learn the procedure on the next round. Otherwise let me know before you fire it up and I will try to be there. Either way.

Super! I'm glad we have a full load (and that you're feeling better Franklin!) I'm out of town until tomorrow evening too. We could meet then or Monday - Would that work for yous?

Just to confirm, everything in there is glazed with cone 6 glazes? All my things are (all two of them haha)

After this unloading we should plan to give the shelves some Dremel love and a fresh coat of wash. Maybe Wednesday?

we're actually out of town until saturday. happy to have someone else fire or wait until we're back then. and yes, all the shop glazes, i believe they were all cone 6.

My items are also glazed with cone 6. 😊

Also Amanda meeting Mindy will definitely work for me. Do you have a time range?

lynda

Evening? Like 6:00 or so?

That works for me.
